Baby Modeling: How Much Does it Pay?

Most people think of large amounts of money when they think of baby modeling, but in fact it is often not all that profitable a venture, and many families find that it is not after all worth the time and effort, or the cost. Having said that, money is not the only reason people get involved in baby modeling, and the possibilities for earning vary from child to child anyway. There are guidelines to follow to help you to be successful, but even so it is possible you will earn very little from it. Having said that, it is still worth considering having your child do baby modeling for other reasons than income alone.

What to Expect

Having chosen a baby modeling agency and signed a contract you will then wait for some opportunities to 'go and see'. These are basically auditions, where you take your child to meet the client who might be interested in hiring him or her. Obviously the majority of people who do this will be told that he or she hasn't got the particular personality, or the look, that they need for this particular job. Remember there could be a hundred mothers there all hoping that their child is the perfect one for the job, but only one will be chosen. So rejection is just part of the business and something you need to learn to handle.

Once you have been chosen for a few jobs, though, and have had some experience of working with clients, you will realise the large variation in the amounts of money that they pay you. There are child labor laws which prevent children from working more than two hours a day, and this means that they cannot earn more than two hours a day will pay them. Some photo shoots pay more and some companies pay more: some may be $50 per hour, others thousands. It all depends on what their needs are.

You would be wrong to assume that your child will become rich, or even that he or she could make a good living by working only two hours a day. On the contrary most children who do baby modeling will work on average once or twice in the space of a few weeks, if they have a good agent. It isn't regular, though, and some weeks there might be several jobs to do, whereas there will also be periods of some weeks at a time when there is nothing. So don't see the word modeling and think you are going to get rich, because you won't, but think of the other benefits you and your child will gain instead.
